Based on Harlan Coben’s best-selling book of the same title, Stay Close depicts the disturbing events that take place in an unnamed town in the north of England. Harlan Coben’s book is set in Atlantic City, New Jersey, while the latest Netflix adaptation was predominantly shot in Manchester, Blackpool and Merseyside in the UK. Places like Blackpool’s Central Pier Big Wheel can be seen in the background of select scenes.

Formby’s Shorrocks Hill lights up the moon like the Vipers Club, Megan’s former workplace that’s dangerously close to where the bodies were hidden. Shorrocks Hill was used for the Vipers club outside shots. The inside shots were filmed at the Impossible bar in Manchester, according to The Manc.

The scenes revolving around Megan’s bachelorette party were filmed at The Refuge, a stylish restaurant and bar on Manchester’s Oxford Road. Didsbury’s Northern Lawn Tennis Club (or “The Northern”) can be seen in Episode 1 of Season 1, according to the Manchester Evening News. The team also visited venues such as the spa and gym at The Edwardian Manchester, a Radisson Collection Hotel.

The Silver Jubilee Bridge connecting Runcorn and Widnes appears in the background of several scenes. The Dream Sculpture, Jaume Plensa’s 67-foot sculpture in Sutton, St. Helens, Merseyside, functions as a meeting point for various characters at Stay Close.

The Dream Sculpture was used in place of Lucy the Elephant, a designated National Historic Landmark in Margate City, NJ, which garnered multiple mentions in Harlan Coben’s Stay Close.

“That head was the funniest thing because it really is as big as it looks,” Bethany Antonia, the actress who plays Kayleigh Shaw, told Radio Times. “It was huge, and yet the entrance was a small maintenance deck that you had to crawl into.”

“You’d think there was going to be all this space in this head, but there just wasn’t, so every time we did something there, we were huddled together in a little house,” he said. “It was a lot of fun, but it looks amazing. It’s a milestone for the show, and anyone who watches the show and then watches it will be amazed at how great it is. It has not been edited to look that size at all. “

Prescot’s Knowsley Safari Park also appears in the series, next to Morecambe Bay, which serves as the location for Lorraine’s apartment.

Stay Close is now available on Netflix.
