Major League Baseball will inspect the Hiram Bithorn field for possible damage after the Bad Bunny concerts

An official of Major League Baseball (MLB) will be visiting this week to inspect the conditions of the Hiram Bithorn stadium after two performances of the urban music exponent were held there Bad Bunny Friday and Saturday.

In each one of the functions an estimated attendance of 35,000 people was estimated, of which around 25,000 were placed on the pitch.

On Sunday, Carlos Berroa, tournament director of the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League, said MLB Inspector Charles Olsen – Assistant Grounds Director Murray Cook – will be visiting the Bithorn this Tuesday and Wednesday. In addition, on Thursday he will make an evaluation of the Yldefonso Solá Morales stadium in Caguas. The Criollos stadium will open its doors again on Saturday after four years of inactivity after the damage caused by Hurricane María.

The Bithorn is home to the Santurce Crabbers and RA12. The grass is artificial and has already been used to celebrate other multitudinous events, such as National Zalsa Day.

“Major League comes on the 14th, 15th and 16th to inspect the stadium (Bithorn), as well as the Solá Morales. Murray Cook (director) will not come but his assistant is coming ”, said Berroa referring to Charles Olsen.

“I have not gone to see the stadium. The last concert was yesterday. I imagine that in the week I will turn around. I prefer to go with the inspector, who is the expert ”.

The LBPRC executive declined to comment on the current condition of the Bithorn until the stadium is inspected by the MLB official.

“You have to give them (the concert production) the opportunity to dismantle and hand over the park,” said Berroa.

“Responsibly, I prefer to reserve opinions until I see the stadium with the inspector. I don’t want to speculate. I prefer to give the promoters the space to do what they have to do, dismantle and deliver the park, ”said Berroa.

Both concerts were produced by Noah Assad, manager of Bad Bunny, in partnership with Alejandro Pabón of Move Concerts. Before the first show on Friday, both held a press conference in which they estimated the investment for both shows at $ 10 million. The promoters of the event have several days to deliver the stadium to the municipality and, therefore, to the league.

The next game scheduled to be held at the facility will be on Thursday when the Cangrejeros host the Criollos de Caguas.

“They are supposed to deliver the stadium to the municipality on the 15th (Wednesday),” specified Berroa.
